Add up to 20 pictures and download one PDF under 1 MB: the limit is preset and counted as 1,000,000 bytes. A single page keeps its full pixel size, five pages print cleanly and ten stay readable on a screen. The note reports the quality used.
- Add your picturesUp to 20. Each becomes a page, in the order of the list.
- Check the noteIt reports the quality and size the pages were fitted to.
- Download the PDFOne file under 1 MB, ready to attach.
About this tool
1 MB is the size many email systems, job portals and help desks ask attachments to stay under. For a PDF made of pictures it is generous for a few pages and workable for many: one scanned page keeps every pixel at a high quality, five pages keep about 1350 pixels of width each, and ten pages keep about 900.
A phone photo of a page is typically two to four megabytes on its own, so a handful of them is far over the line. This page brings the whole set under 1 MB in one step, where compressing each photo separately would leave you guessing how small each one has to be.
The megabyte is counted as 1,000,000 bytes, the smaller of the two definitions in use, so the file also passes anything that counts 1,048,576. If you were told "about 1 MB" and there is leeway, type 1.5 or 2 in the size field for visibly sharper pages.
What you get
- Limit preset to 1 MB, and editable
- One page at full size, or ten readable pages
- The whole set fitted in one step
- Counted as 1,000,000 bytes, so it passes either way
- Any paper size, or pages shaped like the pictures
- Nothing is uploaded

What 1 MB gives each page of text
| Pages in the PDF | Share for each page | Width of a full page of text | What reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | About 1 MB | Full size, at quality 79 in a test | Everything; indistinguishable from the scan |
| 3 | About 333 KB | About 1940 px | Everything; prints sharply |
| 5 | About 200 KB | About 1360 px | Everything; prints cleanly |
| 10 | About 100 KB | About 890 px | Ordinary print; the smallest print is soft |
| 20 | About 50 KB | About 570 px | Headings and large type |
How it works
Once a page's share passes about 650 KB, a scanned A4 page no longer has to give up any pixels: it is stored at its full 2480 by 3508 and the extra bytes go into quality instead. That is the situation with one page at 1 MB, where a test page was saved at quality 79, and it is why a short PDF at this limit looks the same as its source. A 12 megapixel photograph behaves alike: it kept every pixel at quality 75.
For long documents the working copies matter. To hold twenty pictures in a browser tab at once, each is kept at a reduced size, and a page whose share calls for more pixels than its working copy has is read again from the original file, one picture at a time. Memory therefore stays level however many pages there are, and no page is built from a copy smaller than it needs. The megabyte is taken as 1,000,000 bytes, so the same file is 0.95 MB by the 1,048,576 count.
Common problems and how to fix them
- It takes a while with many photos
- Each page is decoded and encoded several times to find its best quality. Twenty large photos can take some seconds on a phone; the line beside the buttons shows which page is being done.
- Twenty pages are not sharp enough
- Twenty pages get about 50 KB each. Split the document into two PDFs of ten pages, or use the 2 MB page if the larger size is allowed.
- The file is 977 KB, not 1 MB
- It is exactly inside 1,000,000 bytes. File managers show sizes in units of 1024, where that is 977 KB.
- A picture was skipped when I added the set
- A file the browser cannot open, such as a HEIC photo in most browsers, is left out and a message says how many were. Convert it to JPG on the phone and add it again.
Frequently asked questions
How many photos fit in a 1 MB PDF?
Up to 20 are accepted. For documents that need reading, ten is a sensible ceiling: in a test, ten full pages of text came out about 890 pixels wide each. Twenty pages get about 50 KB each, which is too little for print.
Will a single photo lose quality at 1 MB?
A little, since most phone photos are larger than 1 MB to begin with. The pixel size is normally kept, and the quality is lowered to about 75 for a 12 megapixel photo, which is hard to see without zooming in.
Is this the same as compressing an existing PDF to 1 MB?
No. It builds a new PDF from pictures and cannot open or shrink a PDF you already have. If the PDF came from photos or scans that you still have, add those here and you get a fresh PDF under 1 MB.
Why does my file show as 977 KB?
1 MB is counted as 1,000,000 bytes, and file managers divide by 1024, which gives about 977 KB. It is deliberately the stricter count.
Is my PDF made on a server?
No. The pictures are read, compressed and written into the PDF by your browser. They are not sent anywhere, which also means there is no queue and no daily limit.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Choose the photos from the gallery, or take them with the camera when the file picker offers it. Large sets need a moment and a phone with reasonable free memory.
Can I set 1.5 MB?
Yes. The size field takes decimals: type 1.5 with the unit on MB, or 1500 with it on KB.
