How to use the 6 × 2 cm signature resizer
Add your signature and fit the crop box, which is three times as wide as it is tall, closely around it. The download is a JPG of 6 × 2 cm, 472 × 157 pixels at 200 DPI, with the file size held between 10 and 20 KB.
- Add your signatureA photo or a scan, with some clear space around the writing.
- Fit the box around itThe box stays three times as wide as it is tall. Let the signature fill most of it.
- DownloadA JPG of 6 × 2 cm at 200 DPI, between 10 and 20 KB.
About this tool
A size in centimetres describes a box on a printed form, the space where a signature would be written by hand. For an upload it has to become pixels, and that needs a resolution. At 200 DPI, the usual setting for scanning documents, 6 by 2 cm is 472 × 157 pixels. At 100 DPI it is 236 × 79. Forms that give the size in centimetres rarely state a DPI, so either is acceptable; 200 keeps the pen strokes sharper.
The shape matters more than the resolution. A signature photographed on a sheet of paper sits in a picture that is nearly square, and squeezing that into a 3:1 strip either distorts it or leaves it tiny in the middle. The crop box on this page has the 3:1 shape. Drag it tightly around the signature, and the result fills the strip without being stretched. The file is saved inside the 10 to 20 KB range that forms using this size ask for, and both limits can be changed.
What you get
- Exactly 6 × 2 cm, at 200 DPI or the resolution you choose
- Crop box fixed to the 3:1 shape
- File size held between 10 and 20 KB, or your own limits
- The signature is never stretched to fit
- DPI saved in the file
When to use the 6 × 2 cm signature resizer
Recruitment forms that give the box in centimetres
Notices that describe the signature as about 6 cm by 2 cm expect an image with that long, shallow shape.
A signature for a printed letterhead
At 6 by 2 cm with the DPI saved, the image drops into a document at the size of a handwritten signature.
Replacing a rejected upload
A signature refused for being the wrong shape or too small in its frame can be re-cropped to the strip the form wants.
Certificates and ID cards
Templates for certificates and staff cards commonly leave a signature panel of about this size.
6 × 2 cm in pixels
| Resolution | 6 × 2 cm in pixels | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 100 DPI | 236 × 79 | Small; fine strokes may break up |
| 150 DPI | 354 × 118 | A middle setting |
| 200 DPI | 472 × 157 | Usual for scanned documents, and the default here |
| 300 DPI | 709 × 236 | Sharpest, and the hardest to keep under 20 KB |
How it works
The box is 3:1, and a signature rarely is. A short signature leaves empty space at both ends; a long flourish may not fit the height. The crop box cannot change shape, but it can change size, so the practical rule is to make it as small as it will go while the whole signature is still inside. Whatever is inside is then scaled evenly to 472 × 157 pixels, without the stretching you get from typing 6 and 2 into an ordinary resizer.
Resolution trades sharpness against file size. At 300 DPI the strip has 167,000 pixels, more than twice the 74,000 it has at 200 DPI, and all of them must share the same 20 KB. For a clean signature that is still comfortable. For one photographed on grey or lined paper, the quality has to drop to fit, and 200 DPI gives the better-looking result.
Common problems and how to fix them
- The ends of my signature are cut off
- Widen the crop box until the whole signature is inside. The height grows with it; that is the 3:1 shape at work.
- There is too much empty space above and below
- A flat signature does not fill a strip this tall. Nothing is wrong: the form's box is simply taller than your signature.
- The file is under 10 KB
- Leave 10 in the smallest-size box and the file is brought up to it. If you cleared the box, type the minimum back in.
- The lines on ruled paper show
- They are part of the photo. Sign on plain white paper; this page does not remove lines or backgrounds.
Frequently asked questions
How many pixels is a 6 cm × 2 cm signature?
472 × 157 pixels at 200 DPI, 236 × 79 at 100 DPI and 709 × 236 at 300 DPI. The formula is centimetres ÷ 2.54 × DPI.
Which forms ask for a 6 × 2 cm signature?
Staff Selection Commission notices of 2025 and 2026 give about 6.0 cm by 2.0 cm with a file size of 10 to 20 KB, and other recruitment forms use the same box. Always check the notice you are applying under. The SSC Photo & Signature Resizer has the other SSC sizes.
My signature looks tiny in the result. Why?
The crop box was left around the whole sheet of paper. Shrink the box until the signature nearly touches its edges. A signature that fills only a small part of the image is a common reason for an upload being rejected.
Can I change the 10 to 20 KB limits?
Yes. Type the smallest and largest file size your form allows. Leave the smallest box empty if the form sets only a maximum.
What is 6 cm × 2 cm in inches?
About 2.36 × 0.79 inches. In millimetres it is 60 × 20.
Do I have to use 200 DPI?
No. Forms that give the size in centimetres seldom state a resolution. Choose another from the list if yours does, and the pixel size follows.
Can the box be 4 × 2 cm or another size?
Yes. Type the width and height you need into the size fields. The crop box takes the new shape straight away.
