Resize a signature and photo for an SSC form
SSC application forms take a signature as a JPG of 10 to 20 KB, about 6 cm wide and 2 cm high. Add a photo of your signature, drag the box over it, and the file comes out at that size.

How to use the SSC photo and signature resizer
Add a photo of your signature, drag the crop box tightly around it and download. The result is a JPG of 6 × 2 cm, 472 × 157 pixels at 200 DPI, with a file size between 10 and 20 KB, which is what SSC notices for 2025 and 2026 ask for.
- Add a photo of your signatureSign in black ink on plain white paper and photograph it in even light, or use a scan.
- Drag the box over the signatureThe box keeps the 6 × 2 shape. Make the signature fill most of it.
- Download the JPGThe result shows the pixel size and confirms the file is between 10 and 20 KB.
About this tool
The Staff Selection Commission's notices for 2025 and 2026 ask for a scanned signature in JPEG or JPG format, between 10 and 20 KB, with image dimensions of about 6.0 cm by 2.0 cm. The annexures of some notices give 4.0 cm by 2.0 cm instead, so both sizes are offered here. In the same notices the photograph is no longer uploaded as a file: it is captured live by the application itself.
This page cuts your signature out of a larger photo or scan with a crop box of the right shape, resizes it to the stated size, and saves a JPG whose file size falls inside the range. An older photograph size of 3.5 by 4.5 cm and 20 to 50 KB is included for forms that still ask for a photo file. The rules differ from one notice to the next, so check the one you are applying under; every number on this page can be changed. This site is not connected with the Commission.
What you get
- Signature sizes from current SSC notices: 6 × 2 cm and 4 × 2 cm
- Lands inside the 10 to 20 KB range and says so
- Crop box locked to the shape of the output
- Older 3.5 × 4.5 cm photo size, 20 to 50 KB, for forms that still need it
- Every size and limit can be edited to match your notice
When to use the SSC photo and signature resizer
SSC CGL and CHSL applications
Both ask for the scanned signature as a JPG of 10 to 20 KB at about 6 by 2 cm.
Junior Engineer, CPO and MTS applications
The Commission repeats one signature rule across its notices, so a correctly sized file is ready for the next form as well.
Selection Posts and departmental exams
These notices repeat the same signature rule, and a few of their annexures use the narrower 4 by 2 cm box.
Fixing a signature that was flagged
When the Commission opens a correction window for a blurred or miniature signature, crop it closer and upload it again.

How it works
SSC gives the signature size in centimetres and the file size in kilobytes, and says nothing about resolution. Centimetres only become pixels through a DPI, so this page uses 200, the figure scanners are normally set to for documents: 6 cm ÷ 2.54 × 200 is 472 pixels and 2 cm is 157. You can pick another DPI. The pixel count changes and the file-size range does not, so a higher DPI simply leaves fewer bytes for each pixel.
To land between 10 and 20 KB the JPG is encoded at several quality settings, and the highest one that stays under 20,000 bytes is kept. A neat signature on white paper can then turn out below the minimum, because blank paper costs almost nothing to store. In that case the picture is encoded at full quality, and if it is still short, filler data is added in a comment inside the file until it reaches 10,240 bytes. The pixel size is never altered to hit the range.
Common problems and how to fix them
- The signature looks small with a lot of white around it
- The crop box is too loose. Drag its corners in until the signature nearly touches the edges. SSC rejects what it calls miniature signatures, where the writing fills only a small part of the image.
- The signature is faint or grey
- It was photographed in poor light or written in light ink. Sign again in black ink on white paper and photograph it near a window, without the phone's shadow falling on the page.
- The form still says the file size is wrong
- Compare the numbers in the error message with the notice. If your exam uses a different range, type it into the two file-size boxes and download again.
- My notice says 4 cm, not 6 cm
- Choose the 4 × 2 cm signature from the list at the top. Some annexures use that width even where the main text of the notice says 6 cm; follow whichever the upload page itself shows.
Frequently asked questions
What is the signature size for an SSC form?
Notices issued in 2025 and 2026 ask for a JPEG or JPG file of 10 to 20 KB with image dimensions of about 6.0 cm (width) by 2.0 cm (height). Some annexures say 4.0 cm by 2.0 cm. Check the notice for your exam and pick the matching size above.
Do I need to upload a photo for SSC?
For recent exams, usually not. The notices say the photograph is captured live through the application module while you fill in the form. Older notices asked for a photo file of 20 to 50 KB and about 3.5 by 4.5 cm, and that size is offered here in case your form still wants one.
Why was my SSC signature rejected?
The reasons the Commission gives most often are a blurred signature and a miniature one, where the signature is a small mark in the middle of a large blank image. Crop tightly so the signature fills most of the box, and sign in dark ink on white paper.
How many pixels is 6 cm by 2 cm?
It depends on the resolution. At 200 DPI, the setting used here, it is 472 × 157 pixels. The notices give the size in centimetres and do not state a DPI, so any sensible value is acceptable as long as the file is between 10 and 20 KB.
Is the result accepted by SSC?
The file matches the size, format and file-size range printed in the notices, which is what the upload page checks. Whether a signature is accepted also depends on things no tool controls: that it is clear, complete and yours. This site is not connected with the Commission.
Can I use a signature written on a phone screen?
The notices ask for a scanned signature, meaning one written on paper. A signature drawn with a finger on a screen looks different from your pen signature, and it may be compared with the one you write at the exam centre, so sign on paper.
Is the signature size the same for SSC CGL and CHSL?
Yes, in the notices this page was built from. The 2025 and 2026 notices for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) and Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) examinations give one rule: a JPG of 10 to 20 KB at about 6 by 2 cm, with 4 by 2 cm in some annexures. Read the notice for your own examination all the same, because the upload page follows the notice, not this page.
What DPI does SSC require for the signature?
None is stated. The notices give centimetres and kilobytes only. This page uses 200 DPI, and the value is saved in the file so that programs showing a physical size report 6 × 2 cm.
