Resize, crop and edit images

Change a picture's size or shape, put something on it, or build one picture from several. Each tool does one job and shows the result before you download.

Plain jobs, one at a time

Editing here means the plain jobs that come up every week: this picture is too big, it is the wrong shape, it needs a name on it, or these four need to be one. There is no layers panel and nothing to learn. Each page takes a picture, does one thing to it and gives it back.

Sizes can be given in the unit you were given. A website asks for pixels, a print shop for centimetres or inches, a form for a size and a resolution together, and the resizers take any of them and work out the rest. A size in centimetres only becomes pixels through a DPI, so those pages ask for one and save it in the file.

None of these tools guesses at what is in a picture. A crop box, a circle or a freehand outline is placed by you, text and logos go to one of nine positions, and nothing finds a face or a subject by itself. What the preview shows is what the download contains.

Resize

Set a new size in pixels or percent, or in the physical units a printer or a form uses. The fixed-size pages crop to the shape as well, so the picture is never stretched.

Crop, rotate and reshape

Cut a picture down to the part you want, turn it, mirror it, or give it more room around the edge.

Add text, a logo, a border or a background

Put a caption, a mark or a frame on a picture, or change what is behind it. Sizes follow the picture, so one setting looks the same on a small image and a large one.

Join, split and arrange

Make one picture from several, or several from one.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image without stretching it?

Keep the ratio lock on in the Image Resizer and change only the width or only the height; the other follows. If the new size has a different shape from the picture, crop it to that shape first, or use one of the fixed-size pages, which do both steps together.

What is the difference between resizing and cropping?

Resizing keeps the whole picture and changes how many pixels it has. Cropping throws away the outside of the picture and keeps the rest as it was. Fitting a picture to an exact size usually needs both: crop to the shape, then resize.

Can these tools make a small image larger without blurring it?

They can make it larger, and it will look softer. Enlarging here is ordinary interpolation, which spreads the existing pixels over more space and invents no detail. For print, start from the largest original you have.

Does editing a photo here remove its EXIF data?

Yes. These tools draw the picture and save it as a new file, and the camera details, date and location stored in the original are not copied across. To change those fields and leave the picture untouched, use the EXIF Editor.
